The Israelites looked around and saw that they were the only nation without a king. In their desire to be like everyone else, they compromised their faith and trust in the the One True and Living King. In their desire for an earthly king, they rejected their heavenly King. God would not abandon them. He would still be faithful His promise to one day send King Jesus who would come to save us from our sins.
